Protest in St.Johns

A meeting took place on St.Johns Lye to protest about the building of a leisure centre on the COMMON land. About 300 people attended. The police showed up in force and sent one bobby.

This is what Woking Boro Council want to spoil.

Just took a stroll up to St.Johns and noticed how peaceful it was here. Walked around the COMMON land and watched mums out with their children on the swings and dads kicking footballs about. This is what the council in their infinite wisdom want to sod up. The want to build a leisure centre on the COMMON land. A car park has already been placed here on this land, but that was needed by customers visiting the local shops, the only problem is that commuters park their cars here and then bike it into Woking to catch their trains, bad news for locals. There was a group of protestors here yesterday, showing the proposed plans of this underhand scheme. If you live local and think this is bad news for St.Johns, visit the notice board there, where you find how to contact the council and let your feelings be known. If this is built on COMMON land we will then be visited by all sorts of undesirables, always on the look out for the gullible, unlocked cars etc.and worse. I jokingly said to one of the group yesterday that what we really needed was a set of stocks erected for a bit of good 'ol fashioned Saturday morning fun, pelting young thugs instead of sending them on holiday, was I joking?
